Mahabharat is a TV series based upon one of the oldest Hindu epics called “Mahabharata”.It was telecasted from 2 October 1988 to 24 June 1990. on India’s National TV channel ‘Doordarshan’.The serial was produced by B.R.Chopra with funding from the Government.Music was composed by acclaimed music director ‘Rajkamal’ and the serial was directed by Chorpa’s son Ravi Chopra.It had a total of 94 episodes and Mahabharat followed Ramayana which a precursor to TV serials based upon the great epics.The total production cost of the serial was 9 crores which is huge when compared with Bollywood films of those days.It was one of the longest running shows in those days along with Ramayana.
